Phonics : Phase 4 Sounds
We do not teach any new sounds during this phase. We continue to use the sounds previously taught within phase 2 and 3.
The purpose of this phase is to consolidate children’s knowledge of graphemes in reading and spelling words containing adjacent consonants (br, spl) and polysyllabic words (helpdesk, windmill).
This phase can be taught alongside phase 3 and phase 5 teaching.
It should take 6 weeks to teach these sounds. We expect it to be completed by the end of week 5 in the Summer term allowing for practise, review and assess time.
